Beauty from Trash

Most of the physical things that we find essential come in packaged form. The packaging may be the skin of a fruit, the shell of an egg, the cardboard box or the ubiquitous plastic bottle. We value the contents but the packaging is considered waste and must be disposed.

The recent work has, as its common thread, the beauty that can be found in these ordinary packing materials. Distressed, cut and edited, they can be assembled into 2 and 3 dimensional works that intrigue the eye. The concept behind these pieces is not an ecological statement but an exploration of the hidden beauty that is found in what is considered trash. These pieces are not maquettes, but are meant to be identifiable of their humble origins.

The series consists of 2D art, sculptures and a 5 minute video. The sculptures are displayed on pedestals with rotation. Several are shown with theatrical lighting that throws shadows dancing on a wall. The kinetic display of a number of the pieces is an important part of the installation. Coupled with stage-like lighting the motion creates a 4th dimension of non repeating shadow art. The video is a story illustrating the central theme of the show
